Cardiac Event Monitor
What is it?
A small, portable device which patients can carry around conveniently, this helps patients who experience transient or infrequent symptoms of palpitations (awareness of heart beat) to monitor their symptoms.
How it works
Patients will be educated on the use of these devices before bringing the specific device home:
-
When patients do feel symptoms (such as fainting episodes or palpitations), they can either press and hold their fingers onto the device or press the device onto their chest, depending on the type of devices used.
-
Depending on the type of devices, the recording of their heart rhythm can be transferred via transtelephonic ways or be recorded on the device itself, which can be retrieved for diagnostic purposes later.
